David Symons, a 36-year old jewelry designer living and working in Key West, Florida, made his first necklace at a friend’s house in New Jersey when a tray of glass beads reminded him of water. “I saw the water in the beads,” he says, “and knew I had to do something.” The water he refers to is the body near Capetown, South Africa, where the cold Atlantic clasps the warm Indian, and where the young Symons played on white dune beaches (approachable by 4-wheel-drive only), in clear, temperate shallows and a surrounding arid landscape.
His first water-inspired necklace led to another and another until, on a visit to Key West, he made the decision to relocate there and open his own store. He called it Blue, in honor of the ever-present sea. For serious inquiries about David’s designs, please contact him at (305) 923-1114.
